The International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC )
The International Center on Nonviolent Conflict (ICNC) is an independent, non-profit educational foundation. Their goal is to promote the study and use of civil disobedience and other types of non-violence to promote civil rights and the rights of discriminated minorities. They want to promote and defend human rights, democratic self-rule and justice around the world. They only promote non-violent non military (civilian based) strategies.
The ICNC goal is divided into three main sub goals: to educate the public, to educate activists and organizers, and to influence policies and media coverage.
Educate the Global Public
Educating the global public is an important goal and this goal is pursued through the use of a long row of different media, ranging from television networks to the internet and offline lectures. ICNC produces videos and books on the topic as well as educational material that is made available to schools and universities. All this is not just to teach about non-violence strategies but also about the history of non-violent conflict resolutions. In addition, ICNC spreads awareness about closed societies where peoples rights are being overlooked.
Educate Activists and Organizers
The organization arranges seminars and workshop on nonviolent strategies. The seminars and workshops are arranged by request and the seminars are often open to anyone that believe that non-violent strategies is the answer to promote human rights and right social injustices. The seminars and workshops are designed to provide knowledge and help develop skills regarding nonviolent strategies.
Influence Policies and Media Coverage
The different goals always float into each other and this one is no exception. This goal is promoted by arranging meetings, conferences and briefings for policy makers and media workers to affect policies and media cover. They also make available articles for the press, and books, video and film coverage is made available to both media and international institution. This type of material is also provided by ICNC to individual decision makers. Last but not least, ICNC helps media to improve the coverage of non violent struggles by making ICNC tools available to media producers.
